In 1914, Caroline Rozgaj journeyed from Croatia to America and settled with her family in Sugar Creek, Missouri. Here she met and married a young man named Michael Kobe.

Caroline grew up to fulfill her dream of being a wife, mother and grandmother. She shared her Croatian
heritage with her children and grandchildren, relating stories of her childhood and baking the traditional
walnut and cheese filled povitica breads she had learned to make in her mother’s house years before.

Kobe House Bakery began in 1994 using grandma’s traditional recipes. As the bakery grew, Owners Kathleen and Joe Woods knew there was something else to share. Grandma’s Alzheimer Fund was created in 2000 in memory of Caroline Rozgaj Kobe, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease. The fund is a component fund of the Truman Heartland Community Foundation and now serves to improve the quality of life for local Alzheimer’s patients and their families. Projects in local Alzheimer’s care facilities have been chosen by the fund. “Grandma’s Dinner” serves as the major fundraising event for Grandma’s Alzheimer Fund and is held annually. And, of course, donations are always welcomed to help continue the good work of the fund.
